Two more books down! Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan was a thoughtful, yet fun, adventure that followed the steps of a traditional Quest. In it, a regular guy gets caught up in a secret society searching for immortality, using ancient books stored below the streets of New York. With the use of technology, he breaks into this world far faster than most, and decides to figure out the ages old mystery through the mighty powers of Google. It’s a story filled with memorable characters who will stick with you long after you put the book down.
Stargazing Dog by Takashi Murakami is a graphic novel that follows the bittersweet story of a dog and his master. Prepare for a few tears if you are a dog lover, or probably even if you aren’t. It’s a quick read – about 20 minutes – but packs in a lot of depth. I’ll probably read it again soon to pick up on the things that I’m sure I missed the first time around.
